Therapeutic exercise for kids affected by cancer
PEER (Pediatric cancer patients and survivors Engaging in Exercise for Recovery) is an evidence-based exercise program developed by researchers at the University of Calgary Health and Wellness Lab in collaboration with oncologists at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. PEER is designed for kids on or off cancer treatments and their siblings.
The right prescription for physical activity can help your child develop strength, endurance, coordination and flexibility. Research shows that regular exercise helps restore energy levels and improve mental and physical well-being. Our PEER exercise classes also offer kids a chance to be more socially engaged and can help improve academic performance.
We offer 3 different PEER sessions each week to accommodate the psychosocial and motor development needs of kids in different age groups
All PEER sessions are supervised by qualified exercise professionals with specific training in pediatric cancer and exercise under of guidance of Dr. Carolina Chamorro Vina (Ph.D.)
